Stop the Silvertown Tunnel
~ Origami Roses ~
Over 9,000 Londoners die prematurely every year due to air pollution. In spite of this public health emergency, the construction of Silvertown Tunnel threatens to dramatically increase pollution levels for communities already facing some of the highest levels of toxic pollution in the country. Tunnel plans include a specified HGV (heavy goods vehicle) lane which is of particular concern.
Overriding objections by Newham Council, West Ham MP Lyn Brown (who voiced opposition in Parliament) and many more local people, the Mayor of London is pushing ahead with construction of the tunnel. We say no more air pollution deaths – #NoSilvertownTunnel.
This Earth Day (22nd April) XR Newham invites you to join us in remembering all those who have died prematurely due to air pollution. Join us in creating memorial flowers (origami tutorial below) and post your pictures on social media with the hashtag #NoSilvertownTunnel.
Tag the Mayor of London and say no more air pollution deaths in our communities.
